Vulcan timber cladding was chosen with a Nero Protector oil finish

Noir spans five storeys with 1050sq metres of living space with river and city views on every level. Moving away from the traditional Hamilton urban fabric, Architect The Artificial uses a dark and textured aesthetic of Vulcan timber cladding with Nero Protector Oil, blackened off form concrete, metal sheeting, glass and vegetation, transitioning in form, materiality and programme as it terraces down the hill.

Vulcan timber cladding is a thermally modified plantation timber, with extraordinary stability, no leaching, and long lengths. Nero was designed especially for Vulcan timber, to provide the longest possible life between maintenance cycles.
